Joyeur Meetups: Berlin and Paris

BERLIN, GERMANY (September 17th)

Several of Joyeurs are headed to Berlin for RailsConf Europe so we figured it was a perfect excuse to check out the beer making skills of the folks over at Lindenbräu” at the Potsdamer Platz.

We plan on setting up a few chairs at 7pm and will start buying pints immediately and our generosity should last for a couple of hours me thinks.

If you are planning on joining us, it would help to know it in advance so we have enough chairs – simply check the attending button over on Upcoming and we’ll make sure there is a pitcher with your name on it.

We might make this a nightly thing and go back on the 18th and 19th too, just talk real sweet to Dave and see how hard you have to twist his arm.

PARIS, FRANCE (September 21st)

Dave and Jason also plan to hit the City of Lights for a night, and would like to share their goodwill with you fine folks over a couple bottles of wine and crudités variées.

Seating is limited in the room we reserved, so if you wish to play with these two, please let us know by simply checking the attending button over on Upcoming so we’ll know if we need to knock down a wall or two.

EDITED: I have just learned that Dean Allen WILL be at the Paris event. Let the hug fest begin.

Taco Tuesday Reminder

Taco Tuesday is tonight and I wanted to point out a critical thing that many people seem to overlook.

We pay for the tacos and the drinks.

That means that for you, they are free.

Free Tacos.

Free Beer.

Just like the Connector

EDITPLEASE NOTE THIS POST IS DATED AUGUST 1ST, BUT TACO TUESDAY WAS ACTUALLY ON TUESDAY, JULY 31ST…SO WE WILL NOT BE AT NICK’S TONIGHT (WEDNESDAY). WE WILL BE BACK ON AUGUST 28TH THOUGH, SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/200478

Upcoming Events: Tacos, Tech and a bit of Beer

The Annual or Whatever WWDC-related Joyent Midnight Cheesestick and Beer Run

Whenever Gruber is out for WWDC, we’ve ended up eating fried cheese and drinking beer.

Then he finds himself recommending it to others.

I then find myself taking others out for fried cheese and beer.

This is Allan Odgaard of Textmate.

Allan got the Gruber-recommended fried cheese

You’ll notice he’s downright giddy.

This is Sebastian.

WWDC 2007

Sebastian has never eaten fried cheese.

Even though he’s smiling, he’s very sad inside.

Very sad.

So, never to let a customer stay sad, I’m making the cheese and beer run official.

Please join me and others this Wednesday at 11:59pm (so you’ll realize that it’s nearly midnight on “Wednesday”, and no one will be confused and show up a day early or late) at

Harry’s Bar
2020 Fillmore Street
(between California St & Pine St)
San Francisco, CA 94115
(Yelp for the bar, and Upcoming for the event)

Joyent at RailsConf 2007

The Joyent team will be in Portland Wednesday, May 16th through Sunday, May 20th for RailsConf and we have planned a few social activities to break up all this silly tech stuff:

Wednesday, May 16th at 7pm
Geek Dinner at the Lucky Lab Brew Pub at
915 SE Hawthorne Blvd. In true geek dinner fashion it is ‘buy your own’, but we hope that won’t stop you from throwing back a pint or two with us.

APPy Hour in the Presidential Suite at the Doubletree Hotel from 3:30pm – 5:30pm daily (Thursday, May 17th – Saturday, May 19th)
Just another excuse to have a beer, shoot the breeze and give you a place to show off the APP you just built that you are super proud of. We will have a few giveaways here, including the opportunity to win a free year on a (L) Accelerator – sweeeet! We will also be podcasting the ps pipe grep from the Suite and might have a surprise visitor now and then so be sure to come on by and say howdy.

Of course, this is a developers conference, so if you would like to mix in a little techie stuff as well – a couple of our boys are hosting sessions you might find a bit interesting:

Thursday, May 17th from 8:30am – 12:00pm
Jason Hoffman is leading a session called Scaling a Rails Application from the Bottom Up. This event has SOLD OUT, so I am hoping you have already have your ticket for this session.

Thursday, May 17th from 8:30pm – 9:30pm
Scott Barron will hold a BOF for people interested in DTrace and Ruby/Rails to discuss the hows, the whys and will provide a few demos. More info. This event is free, though Scott wouldn’t mind you buying him a beer or two to show how much you love him.

Our good friends over at Sun have reserved a spot for Joyent in Sun booth on the pavilion floor – so if you can’t get to the Doubletree Suite, look for us there.

So I guess you don’t really have any excuse to not stop by and say hi – somewhere. :)

It is the last Tuesday of the month.

Know what that means?

It is Taco Wings Tuesday time!

Several of us are attending the MySQL Conference & Expo today, so it was suggested we do our little meetup down there to catch up with some old friends and meet new peeps in town (thanks for the idea Niall).

We will be squatting in the bar area at Faultline Brewing Co which is located at 1235 Oakmead Parkway in Sunnyvale (about 2 miles from the Santa Clara Convention Center) and we’ll start popping to tops off our beers around 7pm (there is a MYSQL reception that runs until 730pm). We plan to hang out until around 9pm – buying beers and wings for anyone who wishes to join us so if you are in the area, stop by and say hi.

If you aren’t able to make it tonight, we hope to see you back in San Francisco next month at Nick’s.

Discount passes to Under The Radar: "Why Office 2.0 Matters"

Jason and I are headed to Mountain View on Friday, March 23rd, to represent Joyent as members of the Graduate Circle for the “Why Office 2.0 Matters” conference held by the folks over at DealMaker Media (AKA: Under The Radar).

Mr. Hoffman will have the stage for a little bit to tout our upcoming Slingshot product, and I will make sure to hog tie him down to a table if anyone is interested in coming by for a quick demo to see what all the fuss is about (product releases in late April – more news coming tomorrow/Thursday).

There are discount passes available to Joyeurs (sign up as a Blogger) that offers $70 off the non-member advance registration, or $170 off the walk-in price. Click here for the discount.

We will be podcasting and shooting video as well, so we hope to have a couple of nuggets to share with everyone here shortly.

Jason is at SXSW in Austin, and this is where I'll be

Please feel free to seek me out (you can also direct message me on twitter here).
